Formula 1 2024 Season

The 2024 season came after a dominant display but Red Bull and Max Verstappen. Many fans believed that Max Verstappen would dominate the 2024 in an even worse style by winning all 24 races in the season, however, this was far from the truth. The 2024 season saw 7 different drivers win, with all 7 drivers winning multiple Grand Prix's, the first time this has ever happened.

Here are all 24 races and their winners.

Bahrain 🇧🇭: Max Verstappen (1)

Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦: Max Verstappen (2)

Australia 🇦🇺: Carlos Sainz (1)

Japan 🇯🇵: Max Verstappen (3)

China 🇨🇳: Max Verstappen (4)

Miami 🇺🇸: Lando Norris (1)

Emilia Romagna 🇮🇹: Max Verstappen (5)

Monaco 🇲🇨: Charles Leclerc (1)

Canada 🇨🇦: Max Verstappen (6)

Spain 🇪🇸: Max Verstappen (7)

Austria 🇦🇹: George Russell (1)

Great Britain 🇬🇧: Lewis Hamilton (1)

Hungary 🇭🇺: Oscar Piastri (1)

Belgium 🇧🇪: Lewis Hamilton (2)

Netherlands 🇳🇱: Lando Norris (2)

Italy 🇮🇹: Charles Leclerc (2)

Azerbaijan 🇦🇿: Oscar Piastri (2)

Singapore 🇸🇬: Lando Norris (3)

United States 🇺🇸: Charles Leclerc (3)

Mexico 🇲🇽: Carlos Sainz (2)

Brazil 🇧🇷: Max Verstappen (8)

Las Vegas 🇺🇸: George Russell (2)

Qatar 🇶🇦: Max Verstappen (9)

Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪: Lando Norris (4)

The 2024 saw the return to the top step for Lewis Hamilton at the British Grand Prix, after nearly 1,000 days since his last win in Saudi Arabia in 2021. We also saw both McLaren drivers (Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri) achieve their first wins, and a first Monegasque driver win at Monaco in 93 years.

Whilst Max Verstappen had the most wins, that does not necessarily reflect the season in 2024. From the Miami Grand Prix, in which Lando Norris won, the brit was considered a championship rival for Max. However, the British driver ended up closer to third place Charles Leclerc than to the eventual 4 time champion.

The Driver's Championship was therefore won by Max Verstappen who won his 4th Championship. Verstappen won the championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix after coming 5th and finishing ahead of Lando Norris to become only the fourth to win a fourth straight Driver's Championship in a row alongside Juan Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton and only the second to win his first 4 in a row (Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen)

The Constructors Championship took a different turn however, with Red Bull, who were so dominant in 2023, finishing 3rd in the Championship behind Ferrari and McLaren, with McLaren winning the Constructors Championship for the first time since 1998 by just 14 points. The wins per constructor were not a telling story either. Red Bull secured the most wins with 9, all by Max Verstappen. McLaren were next with 6 wins, 4 for Lando Norris and 2 for Oscar Piastri. Then Ferrari with 5 wins, 3 for Charles Leclerc and 2 for Carlos Sainz, and then finally it was Mercedes with 4 wins, 2 for Lewis Hamilton and 2 for George Russell.

Stand Outs for the Season:

The stand-out drivers for the 2024 season for us here at Off The Track Sport will most likely go against what the pundits have said.

1) Max Verstappen

Whilst Max had the best car at the start of the season, he made complete use of it, winning 7 of the first 10 races, it was his performances near to the end of the season that cemented himself on the list of stand outs for the 2024 season. Brazil was a historic drive, starting 17th on the grid he had a massive hill to climb as Lando Norris started on pole, and he did just that. Whilst he got lucky with the red flag due to the conditions, Max's pace was unprecedented throughout the whole race, with the 9 fastest laps in the race all coming from the dutchman. These performances show us why he is such a talented driver, and keep us talking about these moments rather than his defensive tactics he deployed in Mexico.

2) Charles Leclerc

Shadowed by the "Verstappen vs Norris" title "fight", Charles had a very solid season, finishing in the top 5 (except for Austria and Britain) every time he saw the chequered flag.

With Charles Leclerc's performances being so good and consistent, Lando Norris went from a fight for the title to a fight for the runners-up position as Charles had such strong performances, where Lando Norris failed to capitalise on his McLaren being the fastest car

3) End of 2024 Pierre Gasly

Considering the way 2024 started off for Alpine, the end of the 2024 season was amazing not only for Pierre himself but for the team as a whole. A 2-3 finish in Brazil definitely was not on anyone's cards when we first saw the A524 but Pierre's pace at the end of the season was superb. The Frenchman showed us all a level similar to 2020 and 2021 scoring vital points in the constructors battle Alpine found themselves in for 6th in the championship.

Pierre is also the first ever driver to cost his team a total of $0 worth of damage, which surely helped towards the development of the A524

Biggest Flops of 2024

1) Kick Sauber

The slowest car we have seen since the 2021 Haas and 50+ second pit stops at the start of the season did not help their Sunday's where they only scored points on one occasion, at Qatar, at the end of the season.

The overall uncompetitive package, with new wheel nuts lead to very disappointing performances, not allowing for Valtteri Bottas or Zhou Guanyu to be anywhere near the front, and for many races even near the midfield

The only positive for the season at Kick Sauber was the fact that Zhou Guanyu had 0 retirements.

2) Logan Sargeant

Logan Sargeant's 2024 season was pretty similar to his 2023 season, with the same poor performances, costing the Williams team millions in damages. The biggest blow for the American driver however would not be the fact he did not finish in the points at all in 2024, or lose his seat half-way through the season, but be the fact he had to give up his car for his team-mate Alex Albon in Australia, after Albon had crashed his car heavily into the wall.

Logan's 2024 misery came to an end just after the Dutch Grand Prix. After crashing the car is spectacular style at Turn 4, and causing the car to burst into flames, Williams decided in a different direction, going with Franco Collapinto, an F2 driver who had only won a Sprint Race and finished on the podium 2 other times.

Making matters worse is that Franco then scored 4 points in only his second race in an F1 car, collecting 4 times the amount of points Logan had done in 1 and a half years.

3) Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez's final season in F1 to date was a horrendous one. Crashing the cars in a lot of races and causing the most amount of damage in 2024 at $4,861,000 Sergio Perez's seat at Red Bull was under constant scrutiny, especially as the RB20 was so dominant at the start of the season. Even though the 2023 Red Bull won all but one race (21/22), Sergio had only seen the top step twice, with his team-mate standing on the top step 19 times. The 2024 season was the same. Whilst Sergio's team-mate Max Verstappen took 9 race wins and an eventual World Championship, Sergio Perez took 0 and only scored 4 podiums all season, all coming right at the start of the season.

What made things worse for Sergio, was that the other 3 contending constructors (Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes) had both their drivers win multiple races in 2024, meaning that Sergio's final championship position (8th) was the worst the sport has seen for a team-mate of the World Champion since Jos Verstappen in 1994.

Our 2024 collection is coming very soon...
